How to uninstall Internet Explorer. Removing Internet Explorer. Using the Command Line

Users who have good alternative browser programs are wondering how to remove standard IE ( Internet Explorer) in Windows 7 and higher. How to make this classical program no trace left?

Standard method

Despite the fact that Microsoft leaves its own application with each version to ensure communication with the network. Even though they do not meet the user's requirements and do not allow them to function normally on the network.

In practice, it is simply impossible to completely remove a program.

All that an ordinary user can do is disable it so that it does not open and install on the system as a program that works with the network, images, and other things.

This precaution was introduced in the event that any browser is damaged and IE will again become available to you to access the network.

Well, there are two more ways to turn it off, which you can use now.

1. First way to disable IE

Uninstalling IE in Windows 7 and above is very easy.

Already in 2009, Microsoft realized that the browser was not popular with power users. When in Windows 10 you can notice the application that replaced the classic browser - Spartan.
- To remove IE, log into the OS using an entry with all admin rights. Otherwise, you will not be able to make changes to the application.
- The next step is to close all applications that could interfere with the tasks for removing Explorer.
- The last step consists of several stages:
1. Go to the control panel via “Start”;
2. We are looking for the “Programs and Features” section;
3. On the left side, go to the item highlighted on the screen:

Now a special window required for Windows will appear.

It is better not to touch most of them at all, so that the operation of applications is not disrupted. IE is also on this list; removing it will not harm the system.

We find the browser by its name and uncheck it, ignoring the warning entries. After some time, the system will be cleaned and the browser will be removed.

2. Remove IE from command line

The second and final option for uninstalling Explorer is to uninstall it via the command line. You will need to spend the same amount of time as the first method, although the second method is a little more difficult for inexperienced users.
You can launch the command line in 2 ways:
- Through Start, go to the “All programs” section and find it in the “ Standard»;

- Launch the program using a key combination Win+R, and then type CMD and confirm the action ENTER.

The user must enter the following command in the CMD field: FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*.mum /с «cmd /с echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w рkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart
A sign in the form of an error will be shown on the screen, ignore it and click “OK”. On drive C, if it is a system one, we find the browser, select it and select Unlocker from the menu, which will allow you to remove the program without problems.

3. Alternative methods

On XP, Win 8, 10 - the steps are similar, in addition to all this, on new versions it is much easier to do this:
1. Programs and components

If you have a question whether it is possible to remove Internet Explorer, then I will answer - it is possible and I will describe the removal methods standard browser Microsoft in different versions Windows. In the first part of the instructions we will talk about how to remove Internet Explorer 11, as well as completely remove Internet Explorer in Windows 7 (it’s just that when you remove the 11th version, it is usually replaced by the previous one, 9 or 10). After this - about uninstalling IE in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, which is done slightly differently.

I note that in my opinion, it is better not to delete IE. If you don’t like the browser, you can simply not use it and even remove the shortcuts from your eyes. However, nothing irreparable will happen after removing Internet Explorer from Windows (the main thing is to make sure to install another browser before removing IE).

Now about completely uninstalling IE. If you have version 11 of the Microsoft browser installed on Windows 7, then you should first follow the instructions from the previous section (in full, including rebooting and hiding the update) and then proceed to the following steps. If you have IE 9 or IE 10, you can start right away.

After uninstalling and restarting your computer, repeat the steps in the first section of the instructions related to disabling the update so that it will not be installed in the future.

Thus, complete removal of Internet Explorer from a computer consists of sequentially removing all installed versions from the latest to the earlier ones, and the steps themselves for this are no different.

Uninstalling Internet Explorer in Windows 8.1 (8) and Windows 10

And finally, how to remove Internet Explorer in Windows 8 and Windows 10. Here, perhaps, everything is even simpler.

Go to the control panel (the fastest way to do this is by right-clicking on the “Start” button). In Control Panel, select Programs and Features. Then click "Turn on or off" Windows components» in the left menu.

Find Internet Explorer 11 in the list of components and uncheck it. You will see a warning that "Disabling Internet Explorer 11 may affect other features and programs installed on your computer." If you agree with this, click "Yes". (In fact, nothing bad will happen if you have a different browser. As a last resort, you can download IE later from the Microsoft website or simply enable it again in the components).

After your consent, the removal of IE from the computer will begin, followed by a reboot, after which you will not find this browser and shortcuts for it in Windows 8 or 10.

Additional Information

Just in case what happens if you uninstall Internet Explorer. Nothing really, but:

  • If you do not have another browser on your computer, you will see an Explorer.exe error when you try to open Internet address shortcuts.
  • Associations for html files and other web formats will disappear if they were associated with IE.

At the same time, if we talk about Windows 8, components, for example, the Windows Store and tiles that use an Internet connection, continue to work, and in Windows 7, as far as can be judged, everything works properly.

How to remove internet explorer in windows 7 - instructions

Hi all.

If you are wondering why I wrote a separate article on how to remove internet explorer in Windows 7, then you have not tried this yet or you have performed the procedure incorrectly. Well, in general, for later systems the algorithm of actions will be similar. Read on and see for yourself.

Introduction

There are a lot of jokes about Internet Explorer on the Internet, saying that this browser is only needed to download another - normal one: D. Indeed, it is already a little outdated and does not meet the requirements of the modern user. However, it is present in every Windows versions. But, as I understand it, you are not one of those who are going to put up with the fact that it is on your computer.

Why am I so sure that your attempts to remove it were either incorrect or unsuccessful? Firstly, because this browser is built by developers into the operating system at the root level, that is, along with such standard programs like a calculator, player Windows Media and others.

If you are dealing, for example, with its 11th version, then when you delete it in the usual way, it is only replaced with an earlier modification.

Thus, if you are so tired of the built-in browser and want to get rid of all its files completely, follow my instructions.

At the same time, there's nothing wrong with complete removal this program will not happen even though it is integrated into the system. So, if you are confident in your uncompromising intentions, move on. I will talk about removal for different versions of operating systems and the program itself. Just don't forget to download another browser first to have access to the Internet ;).

Removing version 11 from Windows 7

I mentioned above that with the 11th modification, not everything is so simple. But by following these steps, you will get rid of both the program itself and its spontaneous updating. So:

  • From the Start menu, go to Control Panel.
  • Click on the "Programs and Features" line. Please note that the viewing type should be set to “Icons” mode (you can change it in the upper right corner).

  • Find the program you need in the list provided.
  • Right-click on it and click the “Delete” option. You can do the same by clicking the corresponding button at the top.

  • When the process is completed, the computer will reboot.

If you don't have it on this list, it doesn't matter. Read on.

To prevent Internet Explorer from installing itself again later, do this:

  • Log in to the Control Panel again.
  • Go to Windows Update.
  • Click on the “Search for updates” line on the left.
  • When it completes, click the Optional Updates link.

  • Find the built-in browser among them.
  • Click on it right click mouse “Hide update”.
  • Confirm the action by clicking "OK".

All these manipulations only helped you get rid of version 11 by rolling back the program to an earlier one. Still want to delete it?

Complete removal of IE from the "seven"

Please note that if you are dealing with Explorer 11, you cannot skip the steps from the previous instructions, otherwise you will not be able to remove it. If you have version 9 or 10 installed, you can uninstall it immediately. How it's done?

  • Open Programs and Features.
  • On the left side, select View installed updates.
  • Find the browser among other programs and remove it as described above.

When the system reboots, you need to disable updates in the same way as described in the second part of the previous instructions. As you can see, the trick to proper removal is to first roll back the browser to earlier versions and only then can you get rid of it completely.

How to remove internet explorer windows 7 seems to have sorted it out. Now as for the rest of the issues.

Windows 8, 8.1 and 10

In these versions of operating systems, the procedure for removing the built-in browser is extremely simple:

  • Go to “Programs and Features”.
  • On the left, select “Turn Windows features on or off.”
  • In the list of the new window, look for IE and uncheck it.

  • The system will warn you that turning off the browser may affect the operation of other applications. Don't believe her and click "OK".

That's all, goal achieved :-)

It is not particularly popular among users and therefore some want to remove it. But if you try to do this on a PC with Windows 7 using standard methods of uninstalling programs, nothing will work, since Internet Explorer is an OS component. Let's find out how you can still remove this browser from your PC.

IE is not only an Internet browser, but can also perform certain functions when running other software that the average user simply does not notice. After turning off Internet Explorer, some features may disappear or certain applications may not work correctly. Therefore, it is not recommended to remove IE unless absolutely necessary.

It is not possible to completely remove IE from your computer, since it is built into the operating system. That is why it is not possible to delete in the standard way in the window "Control Panels" which is called . In Windows 7, you can only disable this component or remove the browser update. But it is worth considering that it will be possible to reset updates only to the version of Internet Explorer 8, since it is included in the basic package of Windows 7.

Method 1: Disable IE

First of all, let's look at the option to disable IE.

  1. Click "Start". Sign in "Control Panel".
  2. In the block "Programs" click "Remove programs".
  3. The tool opens “Removing or changing a program”. If you try to find IE in the presented list of applications to uninstall it in the standard way, you simply will not find an element with that name. So click in the side menu of the window.
  4. The named window will open. Wait a few seconds for the list of components to load into it operating system.
  5. After the list is displayed, find the name in it "Internet Explorer" with the serial number of the version. Uncheck this component.
  6. A dialog box will then appear warning you about the consequences of disabling IE. If you are consciously performing the operation, then press "Yes".
  7. Next click "OK" in the window "Turn Windows features on or off".
  8. The process of making changes to the system will then be carried out. It may take several minutes.
  9. After its completion, the IE browser will be disabled, but if you wish, you can reactivate it in exactly the same way. But it’s worth considering that no matter what version of the browser you installed before, when you reactivate, you will have IE 8 installed, and if you need to upgrade your Internet browser to later versions, you will have to update it.

Method 2: Uninstall IE version

In addition, you can uninstall the Internet Explorer update, that is, reset it to an earlier version. So, if you have IE 11 installed, you will be able to reset it to IE 10 and so on all the way to IE 8.

  1. Login via "Control Panel" through the already familiar window "Removing and changing programs". Click in the side list "View installed updates".
  2. Going to the window "Removing updates" find the object "Internet Explorer" with the corresponding version number in the block « Microsoft Windows» . Since there are quite a lot of elements, you can use the search area by entering the name there:

    Internet Explorer

Once the desired element is found, select it and click "Delete". It is not necessary to uninstall language packs, since they are removed along with the Internet browser.

  3. A dialog box will appear in which you must confirm your determination by clicking "Yes".
  4. After this, the uninstallation procedure for the corresponding version of IE will be performed.
  5. Then another dialog box will open asking you to restart your PC. Close everything open documents and programs, and then click "Reboot Now".
  6. After the reboot, the previous version of IE will be deleted, and the previous version will be installed by number. But it’s worth considering that if you have it enabled automatic update, then the computer can update the browser itself. To prevent this from happening, go to "Control Panel". How to do this was discussed earlier. Choose a section "System and safety".
  7. Next, go to "Windows Update".
  8. In the window that opens "Update Center" click on the side menu item "Search for updates".
  9. The update search process begins, which may take some time.
  10. After its completion, in the opened block “Install updates on your computer” click on the inscription "Optional updates".
  11. In the list of updates that opens, find the object "Internet Explorer". Right-click on it and context menu choose "Hide update".
  12. After this manipulation, Internet Explorer will no longer be automatically updated to a later version. If you need to reset the browser to an earlier instance, then repeat the entire specified path, starting from the first step, only this time removing the other IE update. This way you can downgrade versions up to Internet Explorer 8.

As you can see, it is impossible to completely uninstall Internet Explorer from Windows 7, but there are ways to disable this browser or remove its updates. At the same time, it is recommended to resort to these actions only if absolutely necessary, since IE is an integral part of the operating system.

Hello everyone, dear blog readers. When installing any operating system, a basic set of integrated programs is automatically installed. As you know, along with Windows OS, it is installed Internet program Explorer is a slow and unstable browser. That's why I often get asked the question, how to remove Internet Explorer in Windows 7?

I once had a situation where I tried to update this browser, but nothing worked. Therefore, it was decided to first remove it and then install it again. After these manipulations, everything went well - a new version of this browser was installed.

What you need to know

With the advent of fast, colorful and individually customizable browsers, IE naturally became unpopular. However, before you decide to remove it, it is worth considering that this browser is installed by default along with Windows; it serves not only to have it, but also to download, for example, another browser or any other program after reinstalling Windows.

Advice: if you simply do not want to use the built-in browser, you do not need to remove it, because you can install another browser to surf the Internet.

There is also a situation when there is a program on the computer that only works with this browser. Before deleting, you need to think about whether you have such programs? This can be explained by the fact that when a program is developed, the developers first check its functionality using the IE browser, because all PCs have it.

If you are unable to install your Internet Explorer browser when updating new version or the functionality of the browser is broken during the update, then the way out of this situation is to uninstall Internet Explorer.

The usual method of uninstalling through the “Control Panel” and the “Add or Remove Programs” menu will not work. In this menu you won’t even see standard OS components; they won’t even be recognized by third-party cleaning programs.

To figure out how to remove Internet Explorer from your computer, you need to do everything according to the instructions that I wrote below.

Removal

To do this, go to “Start” - “Control Panel” - “Programs and Features”. In the window that opens, find the menu on the left and click “View installed updates.”

After this you need to wait a little, about 30 seconds. In the list of installed updates, look for “ Windows Internet Explorer (version)";

After selecting an object with the left mouse button, you should look up and find “Delete” in the horizontal menu. Click on the “Delete” button and wait for the program to be removed.

After deleting the browser, restart your PC for the changes to take effect. Windows should ask you to reboot after removing Internet Explorer.

How to disable Internet Explorer

Above I told you how to remove Internet Explorer. But it can also be disabled in Windows 7. To disable Internet Explorer, you need to go to “Start” - “Control Panel” - “Programs and Features”. In the left menu, click “Turn Windows features on or off.”

In the window that opens, find “Internet Explorer (version)”.
