Let's take a look at the first option. First, select the desired image. Its location is not critical. It can be located in separate folder on any disk, and on the desktop. It is also possible to be on a flash drive, disk or any other removable media. Don't forget to pay attention to the resolution of the selected image. Pictures and photos with resolution settings less than 800x600 pixels are not suitable. Then right-click on the selected image and select "Set as background image of the desktop" in the menu that opens. After that, the selected picture will become a screensaver on your personal desktop.

Another option is to go to the Control Panel (right-click on the start button - control panel, in Windows 10 1703 - enter "Control Panel" in the search) - "Personalization", and then click "Screensaver" in the theme options.
The third way to open the screensaver options is to press the Win+R keys on your keyboard and type

You will see the same screen saver options window that was present in the previous Windows versions- here you can select one of the installed screen savers, set its parameters, set the time after which it will start.
Note: By default, Windows 10 is set to turn off the screen after a period of inactivity. If you want the screen not to turn off, but to show a screensaver, in the same screen saver settings window, click "Change power options", and in the next window select "Display off settings".
How to download screensavers
Screensavers for Windows 10 - the same files with the .scr extension as for previous versions of the OS. So presumably all screensavers from previous systems (XP, 7, 8) should also work. Screensaver files are located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\- this is where you should copy screensavers downloaded somewhere that do not have their own installer.
I will not name specific download sites, but there are plenty of them on the Internet and they are easy to find. And installing the screensaver should not present any problems: if it's an installer, run it, if it's just a .scr file, then copy it to System32, after that, the next time you open the screensaver settings window, a new screensaver should appear there.
Very important: screen saver files.scr are ordinary Windows programs(i.e. essentially the same as .exe files), with some additional features (for integration, setting options, exiting the splash screen). That is, these files may also have malicious functions, and in fact, on some sites, under the guise of a screen saver, you can download a virus. What to do: after downloading the file, before copying to system32 or running double click mouse, be sure to check it with virustotal.com and see if it is considered malware by antiviruses.
The computer can be configured so that when it is idle, the image on the screen is replaced by a certain dynamic image, which is called − screen saver .
In the past, splash screens were used to prevent the beams of electron guns from shining for a long time at the same points on the screen. This led to a gradual local destruction of the coating phosphor and the formation of brown spots on the screen.
Modern monitors do not face such a problem, but according to the old tradition, screensavers continue to be made dynamic and mostly in dark colors. The role of screen savers has also changed - now they are used not to protect the screen from phosphor burnout, but to protect documents from prying eyes. When a person leaves the workplace for a few minutes, the screen saver hides his work from others. If desired, the screensaver can be configured so that it cannot be turned off without knowing the password.
The selection and configuration of the screen saver is performed on the Screen Saver tab in the dialog box - Properties: Screen - on operating systems prior to Windows 7. For Windows 7, right-click on the screen > Personalization > Screensaver.

A number of standard screen savers are installed on your computer with the operating system. Select a screensaver from the drop-down list - Screensaver.
After that, a small copy of the splash screen is displayed in the area preview. To expand the splash screen to full screen, click the View button. Energy saving functions can be configured here if necessary. If not needed, turn them off. This procedure is intuitive and does not require detailed explanations.
Controversial point - Why should and should not turn off the energy saving system? Isn't it necessary to conserve electricity?
Firstly, there have not yet been cases where the energy saving system would help the operation of any program, and crashes in programs due to its unexpected interference are by no means uncommon. Secondly, it is necessary to save not electricity, but labors - one's own and others'. It is terribly insulting to approach a computer with a blank monitor and press the power button (for example, in the office, this probability increases).
