Treasure hunting underwater: exploring new horizons

Hello, dear readers. I haven’t posted reports on treasure hunts for a long time, and I’ll explain why. I went to the seaside to relax, and also explored new horizons of treasure hunting. In general, there was no time for forest trips, nevertheless, I expanded the halo of my knowledge and practical experience in such a matter as... underwater search! I tell you in detail...Leading your diary on YouTube, I made friends with many comrades and like-minded people... Somehow I was intrigued by one friend who looks for coins, artifacts and relics under the water! After contacting him, I told him that I was intrigued by underwater search and would not mind trying it out in practice. Our conversation lasted for a couple of hours. I asked a lot: where is the best place to start, how to make my device underwater, what to wear, how to search underwater... having pretty much tired my interlocutor with answers.

Underwater search also carried out underwater with a metal detector

Where to start underwater searching

Underwater search begins with an inspection of the main equipment - a metal detector. First of all, I had to send my E-Track for improvement, which took two weeks. Much was redone, only the “brains” remained, which were placed in a moisture-proof box. We changed the battery box and replaced the original battery with three AA batteries. To search underwater, I had to buy an additional 8-inch coil, which will make it easier to detect the target.

"Underwater E-Track" searches underwater

I also had to remove mine and change them to wired underwater. All cable entries into the unit were redone so that water did not get in there. In turn, in order to search not under water, two rods were made to the upper rod: a short one, for searching under water, and a long one, for standard . We also had to send a standard coil so that the plug could be remade.

Hook system for underwater search

While the device was being redesigned, I had to start assembling the “Hook system” for underwater search. For this I bought: 3 food pipes with a diameter of 150 mm. two meters each, and 4 elbows, so that in the end I get a rectangle of 120x70 cm. I put all the pipe joints on a moisture-resistant glue - sealant, and glued this entire structure onto a sheet of foam plastic, 5 cm thick, and density 30. When the glue dried, I got an air receiver.

DIY Hook system

On one side of the pipe I drilled two 13 mm holes so that I could insert the fittings that are used in tubeless wheels for cars, and another hole on the other side. Also, on four sides, I attached small rings with drawstrings so that a rope or various devices could be attached to them.

Inside the structure, I bought a 10-liter sealed food box in order to place a 105 l/min low-pressure compressor and a 33 Ampere gel battery in it. After talking with a friend and consulting, I bought two batteries and Charger to them. I connected the compressor and the receiver with a food-grade flexible tube, at the outlet from the receiver I attached a five-meter long tube, at the end of which I attached a lung valve, which is used by scuba divers.

Equipment for underwater search

To stay in the water for several hours and dive to a depth of 4 - 5 meters, I had to buy wetsuit 7+7, with the expectation that I will dive in the fall and spring. To swim properly underwater, you need loading, so I bought belt with 14 kg weights. To see well and swim normally, I had to buy mask and fins.

When testing the system, I encountered a problem such as hard bottom cover; for this I had to buy a garden shovel. Also, to explore the coastline, I purchased a beach search.

First discoveries underwater

It took me two (2) months to collect all the equipment! I had to redo a lot, improve, study, study and study. And, having learned to confidently swim underwater and tested all systems and components in every possible way, I decide to carry out my first underwater search. I choose the Southern Bug River as a place to search, or rather, an old beach where life once flourished.

The place of my first underwater searches is the Southern Bug River

One morning, I load all the equipment into the car and drive to the search site. Having driven to the beach, I realized that local shepherds were already waiting for me. But, it doesn’t matter, having answered all their questions about what I want to do, I unload everything from the car and prepare for the underwater search.

I just went into the water and turned on the device, and the whole ground beeps, where I don’t put the device, there’s a signal everywhere! So many... beer caps And canning lids with jars, I didn’t even raise it in places where people used to celebrate the May holidays :) For several decades, the bottom of this beach has simply been covered with metal products. I think this is bad, both for the ecosystem and for the people themselves.

Along with this garbage, coins, late tips and modern walkers are also often found. I don’t want to describe each of these goals, since there were a lot of them. Also, in a few hours of underwater searching, I became the owner of 300 grams of cargo, from different types fishing gear.

Loads from fishing gear - what would you do without it under water?

But, most importantly, for all my work, Grandpa Neptune opened it for me... gold earring And chain. At the end of the day, I also managed to raise the underwater watch from Casio.

In addition to the finds, there is something to be happy about underwater: the underwater element is very beautiful, although it is littered. Fish swam up to me several times, wondering what I was looking for here and who I was. I didn’t tell them, but having dived enough and drained two batteries, I stopped my water campaign. As always, I upload my finds and take photographs.

Final finds of the day in one photo

I think that my first underwater search was a great success, and I also discovered another form of relaxation and good time, having finally made friends with my metal detector and water! Satisfied with my first dive underwater with MD, I invite you to dive into the depths of the water with me... Watch my video report:

If you want to choose an underwater metal detector, then now is the time to choose a model and get ready for the summer. In this article, you will see a brief overview of the most popular and lesser-known models, which I will briefly describe.

There are two types of underwater metal detectors; this is an amphibious metal detector, with the ability to walk both underwater and on land. But, usually the maximum immersion depth of such metal detectors is up to 5 meters. And an underwater metal detector that has the ability to fully dive into water, 20-30 meters, and is not afraid of salt water. While an amphibious metal detector can detect salt water.

Amphibians have an LCD screen, which does not allow them to be deeply immersed, as there is a high probability that there will be damage from water pressure. And many devices were drowned in such a search. A new amphibian model appeared in 2012, the Minelab CTX 3030, which I described in great detail.

Whereas in a conventional underwater metal detector, you receive all the information through headphones, and adjustments are made through rotary controls.

Just a moment!!! I already have an article on our blog - in it I give simple and understandable advice to a beginner when choosing his first device.
