Modern world it is no longer possible to imagine without digital TV. Such signal transmission has been used for a long time for broadcasting television and radio channels in many countries of Europe, America and Asia. In Russia, the process of transition from analog TV to digital was delayed.

The digital signal coming through the receiver's antenna allows you to watch more TV channels throughout the country without loss of quality and interference. In this case, the signal itself can come as an antenna, which is attached to set-top box and directly to the TV. It all depends on how modern model this device you possess.

With devices that support DVB-T2, everything is simple. In order to connect to digital TV, just insert the cable into the appropriate connector and perform a simple channel setup. What is needed for this

Connecting a digital set-top box

The receiver can be connected either directly to a TV or via a DVD or monitor, but for the latter two options, you will most likely need to purchase a special adapter.

In order to connect the receiver directly, you should follow the steps below:

1. Take the TV box out of the box and remove the protective film from it. Film must be removed. Otherwise, the receiver may overheat and break.
2. Take a TV cable and cut off the protective sheath, thus exposing 1-15 millimeters of the cable on both sides. The sheath should be stripped very carefully so as not to damage the shielding film, which is designed to protect the center conductor.
3. Carefully peel back the shiny protective film and screw the f-connectors to the wires.
4. Connect the TV to the set-top box with a cable.
5. Insert the wires into the cinch sockets on the TV and set-top box.
6. Connect the antenna to your TV. In this case, the antenna itself should be installed on the outer wall of the house or on your balcony, if it is not glazed. At the same time, make sure that it is not touched by tree branches or power wires.

This completes the process of connecting the TV set-top box. Next, to watch TV channels available in your region, you should set it up.

In our country, many people still use TVs that were produced back in the Soviet years or in the early 90s. Connecting a receiver to such devices is not so easy - they do not have tulip-type connectors. Also, some models have scart outputs, but they only accept component signals.

You can solve these problems in two ways:

• Find a schematic for an A/V input to scart adapter and solder it yourself;
• Buy a special adapter in the store, to which you can connect the RCA cable from the set-top box or an adapter cable.

There are even older models of TVs of the Electron type, in which there are no inputs at all, except for the antenna connector. The TV receives a modulated high frequency signal through this connector, so in order to watch digital TV on this type of device, you will need to purchase an additional modulator that will be equipped with RCA connectors.

Receiver setup

In order to tune digital channels on the TV, after connecting the set-top box to it, you will need to follow these steps:

1. Press the "Menu" button on the remote control.
2. In the window that opens, go to the settings menu.
3. You need to select Russia as the country if it is not the default.
4. Now you need to choose a signal standard. By default, DTV-T/DTV-T2 is set, that is, analog and digital TV, respectively. If you leave it like that, the TV will search for both those and these channels.
5. You will be prompted to perform an automatic or manual setting. Select Automatic and press the OK button on the remote control.
6. Now you need to wait a while until all available free and paid TV channels are detected. When the search is complete, click Save.

This is one of the most simple ways set up digital TV at home. If the TV found few channels or did not find them at all, then you should use the manual setting.

To do this, you need to delete all the channels that were found for this. After the channels are deleted, you should repeat the same steps as for automatic search, but instead of auto tuning, select manual search. After the TV channels of the first multiplex are found, you will need to find out the frequency for the second multiplex in your city and start the manual search again. Thanks to this, you will be able to watch more channels.

Signal Quality Check

To make sure that you did everything correctly and everything works well, you should check the quality of signal reception. It's easy to do. The receiver should have a button called INFO. By clicking on it three times, a window will appear on the screen with information about the signal quality, channel number, frequency and encoding. If the two existing indicators are above 60%, then everything is fine and the signal level is quite acceptable.

Perhaps, in your model of TV set-top box, this button will be called something else. To find out what this button is called for you, look at the instructions and read the function of the buttons.

If your TV catches several multiplexes, be sure to check the signal quality on each of them. This is due to the fact that each of them is transmitted and received using different transmitters, so it is quite possible that the signal will be good in one multiplex, and not in the second.

First, choose a connection method.

After connecting the device, turn on the TV and set-top box. On the TV, you need to select the video input to go to the receiver's menu. If everything is done correctly, then on the screen you will see a welcome window in which you will need to select the language, region, mode and image format, as well as the search mode. Set the required parameters using the remote control of the set-top box. You can leave the settings unchanged and leave them as default. Click "OK" to go to the next window.

If in the “Search mode” section there is “DVB-T + DVB-T2”, then the receiver will immediately find all the channels available for your region on its own. But this method will only work if you already have a working antenna pointing in the right direction. When the auto search is completed, you can close the menu and enjoy watching. Other users need to perform antenna positioning. There is nothing complicated in this, all that is needed is to make a few settings in the receiver's menu.

The list of available channels is loaded manually or automatically

If you didn't have an antenna before and it appeared only now, together with the DVB-T2 set-top box, being in the welcome window, press the button to open the menu on your remote control. Go to "DVBT Setup" and select "Channel Search". In the window that opens, set the "Search Mode". Here you can set both "by channel" and "by frequency". There is no big difference here - choose what you like best. Next, set the search band to "UHF".

To simplify the process of finding channels, go to a special site with information on frequency channels for your particular city. In principle, it is not necessary to do this, you can do without it, but this approach will facilitate and speed up the setup process. Select the desired value in the "Frequency channel" item. If the direction was chosen correctly, then after a couple of seconds you will see the filled scales "Signal intensity" and "Signal quality" at the bottom of the window. If the level of the scales is good, then click "Search". After that, the receiver will tune in the specified frequency channel.

In the event that you do not know the desired direction of the antenna, take it and gently twist it, following the scales of intensity and quality. As soon as they are filled to an acceptable level, fix the antenna and search. As soon as the process of setting up TV channels is completed, you can exit the menu and start watching.

Most models provide the ability to simultaneously connect both via tulip connectors and via HDMI

If you are simultaneously connected via both "tulips" and via HDMI, you can switch from one cable to another during viewing. It is better to watch it through HDMI, since in this case the image quality will be much higher.

The power socket is round, if you do not plan to connect a USB flash drive, a 5 Volt 1 Amp power supply will do. If you want to connect a USB flash drive, then you need a 5 Volt 2 Amp unit. You can use charging from a mobile phone, since the adapter for connecting to the charger is included.

The external sensor of the IR remote control is mounted on a double-sided Velcro in a place convenient for you. Also inside it there is a red-blue indicator that displays the operating mode of the receiver.

And now, all the wires are connected, the remote is charged with batteries. We turn on auto search for channels! Caught the first channel .... We are waiting ... Nothing changes on the screen for a long time, there is also no reaction to the remote control.
Blue screen - that's how the test of our Perfeo PF-T2 receiver ended. Neither turning on again, nor dancing with a tambourine could bring him back to life. Out of curiosity, I took it apart to see what happened there ???

How to connect Perfeo PF-T2-1?

After writing the article, I was asked to explain how this receiver is connected. Indeed, the instructions for the device are rather meager, I didn’t come across the Perfeo PF-T2-1 connection diagram on the Internet, and I already handed over my copy. But I found a video (it is at the end of the article), where they show not ours, but a very similar model.

Video notes:

1) At the beginning of the video, the USB connector (flat one, if anyone does not know) is plugged into the TV. I don't recommend doing this. More precisely, you can check the performance at the very beginning and in this way. Then I advise you to buy Charger. It looks something like this, the color and shape do not play a role, the main thing is that there is such a rectangular connector as in the photo, and the current is 1.5 or 2 amperes. In extreme cases, you can and 1 ampere.

2) "Tulips" (three multi-colored connectors) connect to the TV input. But old TVs may not have a red connector, then connect only white and yellow. If the TV has more than three sockets for tulips, turn on those with the inscription "IN" or "IN".

3) The infrared receiver (the time in the video is 1:45) of the Perfeo PF-T2-1 has a completely different connector - round and thin. It connects to the "IR IN" jack. Be sure to insert it all the way, you may have to press harder. If you insert not to the very end, nothing will work!
The infrared receiver should be turned with the dark red side towards us, and it is not necessary to put it behind the TV. Any objects on the way to the remote control will interfere with switching and tuning channels.

After turning on the TV and receiver, press the "menu" button on the remote control and select the channel setup on the screen, usually this item is called "Automatic program search".

The video does not show Perfeo PF-T2-1, but everything is connected in the same way.
