Download the new official firmware for Samsung s4. Firmware for Samsung Galaxy S4. Standard software update

Hello everyone, in this post I will show you how you can flash (update the software or reflash), get root rights (rutting or unrooting), install CWM (custom or non-factory recovery) and perform a hard reset on your smartphone Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 16Gb.

It so happened that I had to use it for a whole week for work. If you compare it with mine, I practically didn’t notice the difference, it’s also dumb in stock, there are also a lot of applications that are useless for me, but there is one thing - the build quality of mine is better.

And so, when updating the software, I will use the usual factory firmware of the latest version with Android 4.4.2 , in this article I will not install custom (modified by other “specialists”) versions of firmware for the reason - well, I don’t like them. I had non-official firmware on my SGS3 for about six months - I didn’t like it. It is clear that people make them “for themselves.” I put the stock one back and rooted it. Everything suits me. I need ROOT rights to remove all applications I don’t need and to install programs that need these privileges. I won't go into detail about this. In the following articles.

In terms of operation, I can only say one thing - the main problem with this phone is the battery - it swelled during this week. This is a factory defect (or rather a miscalculation). When in use, its consumption is 0.7 amperes and therefore, with prolonged use, the first batteries could not withstand such a load. And one more thing that I didn’t like - by the end of the warranty period, if you don’t use a cover, the paint may come off from the rim. In the Chinese this is almost a rarity, but here the device costs a kilobuck at the start of sales. This problem could have been solved. Okay, enough of the rant and let's get started. Everything is in order.

ATTENTION!!! Before starting software updates, rooting, resetting settings and other manipulations with your own or, God forbid, someone else’s device HIGHLY RECOMMEND read this one. In short, you have been warned and don’t say later that this is the first time you’ve heard this.

Preparation for firmware and other actions.

To start flashing your smartphone, you must first prepare. The preparatory stage does not take much time, but it allows you to do everything without any problems. Everything needs preparation.

  • As usual, I first recommend charge the battery , preferably one hundred percent, but half is enough too. But it’s better not to risk it and put the phone on charge and wait for it to finish;
  • For firmware we need a regular microUSB cable , which is included with the device. Check the phone and cable connectors for serviceability and the absence of dirt and traces of oxide. Otherwise, the device simply will not be detected by the computer and will not be flashed;
  • Drivers are installed along with KIES -om or you can install it separately - there are installation instructions and the file itself;
  • Stitcher - Odin3 v3.07 ;
  • Firmware - I9500XXUGNG3 . In the examples I used this version, although an updated version has now been released. But the main thing is not to show you the process of changing software. Latest firmware version I9500XXUHOD4 is in the files - it is relevant at the moment;
  • CF-Auto-Root-ja3g-ja3gxx-gti9500 - file for obtaining root rights;
  • philz_touch_6.00.8-i9500 file for installing custom recovery;
  • Personal computer or laptop - a simple computer with winXPwin7win8 on board will do;
  • You've probably already thought about where to get all this software - at the end of the post you will find the answer to this question.

Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 - drivers.

There are several ways to install drivers for Samsung devices. I use only two - the first is to install a synchronization program with a computer called KIES. You can download it on the official SAMSUNG website completely free of charge and it is always the latest version. Look for it on the model page in the technical section. support. I told you how to install it. If you already have it installed, then you can skip this part of the post and go straight to the firmware. If not, it is better to install the drivers separately. Now I will show you how to do this.

Step 1:Download and run the file named SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.

Step 2:The installer will launch. Click the NEXT button.

Step 3:Select your country and language, and then click NEXT.

Step 4:Select a disk location for installation or leave everything as is and click the INSTALL button.

Step 5:The process of copying files and installing drivers.

Step 6:The installation is complete, click the DONE button to exit the installer. Now you need to connect the turned on smartphone to the computer with a cable and wait for the system to automatically detect it.

Standard software update.

This part will show how to flash this device with standard or factory software. This method is absolutely legal and safe for both the warranty and the hardware of your smartphone. It is also very simple and you will cope with this task the first time... I am sure of it. But before you start doing anything SAVE ALL IMPORTANT AND NECESSARY INFORMATION FROM YOUR PHONE TO A MEMORY CARD OR OTHER INFORMATION CARRIER, OTHERWISE YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING, AS IT ALL WILL BE DELETED. Let's get started.

Step 1:Before flashing the firmware, you must enter the phone into DOWNLOADING mode. This is done like this - press the volume button down (decrease sound) and without releasing it, press the HOME button (at the bottom on the front part there is one there) and immediately the power button, hold them down until the WARNING!! warning appears. Here we are warned about the risks of flashing firmware. If this doesn’t scare you, press the volume up button to continue. If you still change your mind about continuing, press the volume down button (volume down) and the phone will reboot. But I hope that you are not one of the timid ones, so let’s continue.

Step 2:If a green android appears, then you did everything right. This is download mode.

Step 3:Now you need to run the flash driver. Go to the Odin folder and run the Odin3 v3.07.exe application.

Step 4:This is what it looks like when it's running.

BE CAREFUL - CHECK SEVERAL TIMES!!!

Step 6:Now you need to connect your phone to your computer. BUT if you have KIES installed, then you need to close it and “kill” all processes in the task manager with a name that contains the word KIES. This is a must do. Now connect the device. If the com port is detected, press the START button in Odin.

Step 7:The process of copying firmware files has started.

Step 8:Wait until the phone reboots.

Step 9:Everything Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 is flashed. You can use it.

Root rights in 3 minutes

Let's now show you how you can get superuser rights or root access. BUT THERE IS ONE MINUS - YOU AUTOMATICALLY LOSE THE OFFICIAL WARRANTY FOR YOUR SMARTPHONE. AND THAT'S WHY I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU TO DO THIS.

Step 1:We enter the device into download mode. I showed how to do this above. Let's launch ODIN.

Step 2:Press the PDA button and select the file CF-Auto-Root-ja3g-ja3gxx-gti9500. We connect the device to the computer. We wait for it to be determined and press the Start button.

Step 3:The files will download quickly. The phone will reboot and the message PASS will appear! - root received.

Step 4:Go to the main menu of your phone and the SuperSU application icon should appear there.

Step 5:I WILL REPEAT AGAIN. After rooting, go to Downloading mode and you will see that the custom firmware counter has triggered. This means that if you contact the ASC under the manufacturer’s warranty with some kind of malfunction, you will carry out repairs at your own expense. Since you blew the guarantee in 3 minutes. This is spelled out in the gar. coupon. We have not yet learned how to reset this counter in a more or less simple way.

ClockWorkMod recovery (CWM)

CWM is a custom recovery that has much greater functionality compared to the standard one. Installation of recovery will be shown here philz touch for our smartphone. When you install this recovery, you also lose the WARRANTY.

Step 1:Boot your smartphone into download mode. Launch one. Select the file philz_touch_6.00.8-i9500 by pressing the PDA button, connect the body to the computer, after identifying the com port, press the Start button and wait for PASS!. CWM is installed.

Step 2:This is what CWM philz touch 6.00.8 looks like for SGS4.

PAC-Man 4.4.2

PAC-Man is one of those firmware that is gaining more and more authority and popularity. This firmware combines many features of ParanoidAndroid, CyanogenMod and AOKP. The Galaxy S4 i9500 version is built on Android 4.4 KitKat and still needs to eliminate some rough edges, but the latest version i9505 is considered more stable because it uses Android 4.3 as a base.

Lidroid V2.0

Anyone who is used to TouchWiz should turn their attention to Lidroid. This firmware is based on the official Android 4.4.2 and combines all the basic Samsung gadgets, such as a theme editor and an excellent file manager.

MIUI

You're probably wondering why we mentioned this already well-known firmware? Probably because the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the MIUI color scheme go well together, since this firmware was specially created for smartphones. If you like large icon sizes, then MIUI will be right up your alley.

Prism Barebone

Prism Barebone is built on Android 4.3. The ROM is very stable in its operation and allows you to choose between TouchWiz and pure Android design. All pre-installed applications were removed, but Samsung widgets remained in its composition.

CyanogenMod 11

CyanogenMod has become the most popular and most traditional custom firmware. It is stable, reliable and, most importantly, updates appear regularly. If you don’t know where to go, then SM will be a win-win choice. There is both a version for the Galaxy S4 I9500 and for the S4 4G I9505. The most stable version is CyanogenMod 10.2, based on Android 4.3.

Please note that these instructions are mostly intended for more experienced users. Therefore, beginners can also take risks, but you will still be responsible for the consequences yourself.

  • You will need the Odin program if you were unable to update your Galaxy S4 using Kies;
  • Disable any anti-virus software while flashing your smartphone;
  • Enable USB debugging in the Galaxy S4 settings. To do this, you must open the developer settings options: open Settings/…/About device, find the build number and tap on this line 7 times. Then enable USB debugging.
  • If your smartphone is flashed with custom firmware, then you will have to completely erase the system partition;
  • If your Galaxy S4 is 100% stock, then you don’t have to worry about losing information;
  • Before installing new firmware, remove the MicroSD card from the Galaxy S4;
  • Just in case, back up data from installed applications, SMS and other data using Helium for Android or any other similar software;
  • Sync contacts and data with your default Google account;
  • Check your phone's battery charge and make sure that the battery is at least 50% charged so that the phone does not turn off in the middle of the installation process;

If your Galaxy S4 rebooted successfully and the interface works fine and there were no problems during the installation process, then you can close this article. If problems arise and the update installation process has not been completed, we offer some tips below.

Tip 1: If Odin freezes or a FAIL warning appears, then you should repeat all the steps in the instructions from the beginning until you install the update.

  • turn off your smartphone and remove the battery.
  • close Odin and make sure your phone is disconnected from your computer.
  • Boot your smartphone into Download Mode, launch Odin and repeat the instructions again.

Tip 2: If Odin says the flashing process has completed successfully, but the phone cannot boot to the start screen, then you will have to do a “Factory Reset”. This will destroy all data on the system partition, but then you can boot your Galaxy S4 normally.

  • Turn off the phone, remove the battery and make sure it is not connected to the computer.
  • Boot your Galaxy S4 into recovery mode.
  • select “wipe data/factory reset”.
  • return to the main menu of recovery mode and reboot the device – Reboot now.
  • wait until your phone boots up completely and enter your Gmail account details.

Hello, in this article I would like to tell you How to reflash Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9500 / GT-i9505

To flash the firmware you will need a laptop or computer connected to an uninterruptible power supply; uninterruptible power supply is a very important point, since in the event of a power outage there is a possibility of getting a “brick” from the phone,

which cannot be restored at home and you will have to take your Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9500 / GT-i9505 to a service center.
It is advisable to flash via a USB 2.0 port; sometimes there are problems with USB 3.0 ports (due to their novelty and imperfection). USB1 ports are not suitable! (Too old)
The phone must be connected directly to USB, and not through a hub!

So, what do you need to reflash the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9500 / GT-i9505?
You need to install phone drivers on your computer; they can be found at the office. Samsung website.
Download and install the actual program through which we will reflash our Galaxy S4, flasher - Odin v3.07 or a more recent version. (Odin is an official program of company service centers, so I will not give an active link, Google will help).
You need to download the firmware itself, you can also download this rooted SGS4(root)

Well, let's start flashing the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9500 / GT-i9505
Close the Kies program, kill all processes in Task Manage associated with Kies.
We will unpack the downloaded firmware into a simpler directory (preferably without Cyrillic, etc.), for example C:\GT-9500\I9500XXUAMDK_I9500SERAMDK_I9500XXUAMDK_HOME.tar.md5

1. Launch the Odin v3.07 program with the administrator account code, and we will see the following window:

2. Turn off the smartphone. We press three buttons on the switched off smartphone (volume down + central soft key + power button. As soon as the inscription appears on Warning!! and then the white-green text, release the keys.

There we read: Volume up: what we need, press the volume rocker up. And we see a green android and under it the inscription, Downloading.., the phone is ready for flashing, we entered it into flash mode. (If we press the volume rocker not up, but down, then the smart phone will go into reboot!)

3.Everything is ready for the firmware: Connect the cable (pre-inserted into the PC) to the smartphone and see in the upper left corner the inscription “com” with the port number on a blue background (the phone was recognized by Odin)

Drivers will be installed if you are doing this for the first time, so wait until they are completely installed!!

4.If you downloaded an archive that contains only one *.tar or *.tar.md5 file, then substitute this tar (md5) into Odin3 as a PDA part. We do not touch the remaining jackdaws. The checkboxes next to Auto Reboot and F.Reset time should be checked, the rest of the checkboxes should be as in the picture, that is, empty!!!

Notes: It is not recommended to remove the md5 extension. This is the same as tar, but with a file checksum check (CRC).
Some custom firmware also comes with MD5. Their authors do not always understand the meaning of CRC. Those. take the stock *.tar.md5 and change the files inside. As a result, the CRC does not match the content, and Odin3 quite rightly begins to curse. In this case, we either ignore this protest or delete the md5 extension.
Some firmware comes with the SS_DL.dll file. It is present in all firmware downloaded from Kies. For Odin this file is not needed.

Instructions for installing the official single-file firmware on the Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I950x).
