On the front side of the package you can see the smartphone itself and its markings.

There is a sticker with which we will recognize the color, model, imei number, serial number devices and the frequencies they support.

In the box, the smartphone is comfortably located in a special plastic tray and packed in a bag.

Appearance and design

The device is thin and pleasantly lies in the hand - this is a good advantage when compared with other analogs of the middle segment. Its dimensions on paper are as follows - 75x144x8.5 mm. Weight is small - 135 g.

Immediately attracts the attention of a 4 mm camera module on the back side. Perhaps this element should have been implemented a little differently, especially since the camera installed in the smartphone is quite ordinary and without frills.

The design of Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD is quite distinctive and practical, although it is associated with the Sharp SH930U and HTC One X - a thin line of contact between the lines of the case and the smartphone is noticeable. The lower protruding face of the case gives it a special zest.

The phone comes to our market in white, black, red, yellow colors. The tested model is presented in black. Cover materials are different. For example, the black cover is made of soft matte soft-touch plastic, while the other colors are made of glossy plastic, which likes to collect not only fingerprints, but also scratches.

The grip is excellent - it is comfortable to hold both in the left and in the right hand and all the buttons are under the fingertips. It is difficult to get used to the location of the power button.

On the front side there is a front camera and a speaker in a small recess, behind a metal mesh. Next door is a light and proximity sensor - they work correctly, and there are no complaints about them.

There is nothing below the display. The control keys in the smartphone are virtual. In my opinion, it is very convenient and practical and the view is more aesthetic. The only thing missing is the notification LED at the bottom.

On the back side there is a camera module, an additional microphone and a bright LED flash, below, under the perforation of the lid, there is a speaker, about which a little later.

On the left is a MicroUSB connector for synchronization and charging, slots for a pair of microSIM SIM cards.

On the right is a slot for a MicroSD memory card and a volume rocker. The button does not crunch, pressing is worked out clearly and gently.

On top is the power button and 3.5mm headphone jack. Below, only a spoken microphone.

There are also no crunches, and pressing on power button are processed well.

As for the assembly, it is worthy of praise. There are no creaks, backlashes, deflections of the case. The model passes the twist test with tolerance. The smartphone is made as a single monolith, and without special tools it is not possible to disassemble it, so the back cover cannot be removed. Ergonomics of the device and design are concise and pleasant.

First impressions of the ALCATEL ONE TOUCH SCRIBE HD smartphone, and now we have the opportunity to test a commercial sample of the device. The test results can be found below.

Contents of delivery

The smartphone comes in a medium-sized white cardboard box. On the box there is an image of the device with a folding flip attached to it and a stylus, as well as brief characteristics.

Inside you will find: a smartphone, a stylus with a soft tip, a magnetic flip case, network adapter 1A, USB cable, headset and instruction manual.

Since the design and ergonomics of the smartphone has not changed since the first sample of ALCATEL ONE TOUCH SCRIBE HD, we will not repeat ourselves. The same applies to the operating system version, shell and display characteristics. The focus was on performance, autonomy and cameras.

Hardware platform: performance, autonomy

Recall that ALCATEL ONE TOUCH SCRIBE HD is based on the MediaTek MTK6589 hardware platform, the amount of RAM is 1 GB, the built-in storage is 4 GB, of which 1.2 GB is available to the user.

Testing showed that the results of a commercial sample are practically the same as those that we managed to get earlier - this is a typical level for the SoC used. The smartphone can easily play HD videos of popular formats, but to watch Full HD videos, it is better to install a third-party application. Headphone volume is high. There are no complaints about the quality.

Music playback can be attributed to the advantages of the device. This is facilitated by a good and loud sound in the headphones and excellent autonomy. The standard music player does not stand out with anything special, rather it has everything you need. Except for the equalizer. In view of the latter, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with music players in order to decide which one to choose.

The first search for GPS satellites can take 5 to 10 minutes. All subsequent inclusions take much less time. The number of visible satellites is not the largest, but it is quite sufficient to accompany the route on foot and car navigation.

The WiFi signal reception rate is one of the best, the data transfer rate is high. Work in the mobile network did not cause any complications. The volume of the earpiece is sufficient so that there is no desire to increase it, but without a margin.

In terms of autonomy, the commercial sample performed somewhat better. For comparison, in the Antutu Tester application, the new OT Scribe HD scored 644 points, while the first sample did not reach 590. In terms of time, the test lasted 3 hours and 35 minutes - a good indicator. When using a smartphone to make calls (about 20 minutes a day), send messages (~10 messages a day), automatically synchronize two accounts, transfer data to a mobile network and WiFi, read a news feed from social networks(up to 30 minutes a day), you can count on two days of work.

In two-hour tests, ALCATEL ONE TOUCH SCRIBE HD showed itself in two ways, some results were better, and some were worse.

To listen to music, a standard player was used, the volume was set to 12 out of 15 possible, MP3 files with a bit rate of 320 Kbps. In reading mode, all wireless communications are disabled, including data transmission in the mobile network, and the display brightness is set to 50%. Navigation includes route planning in the Google Navigation app. The brightness is set to 50%, all communication communication modules are disabled. When playing a video, the display brightness is set to 50%, the sound volume in the headphones is at level 12 out of possible 15. The video file format is MKV, the resolution is 1024x432 pixels, the frame rate is 24. You can launch the camera from the lock screen. To do this, move the clock widget to the left. With the exception of the black area with touch keys, the viewfinder occupies the entire screen area. On its left side are icons for shooting modes: normal, HDR, beautiful face, panorama, 3D photo, auto detection, smile detection, and take three pictures with different exposures. On the right side of the screen there is a small square with a preview of the last shot, buttons for taking pictures and recording videos, as well as a shortcut to open the settings menu. In the settings, you can turn on geotagging, turn off the shutter sound, choose an exposure, color effects, one of many scenes, white balance, image settings, and flicker reduction. Separately for photos, you can activate face detection in the frame, timer shooting (2 or 10 seconds), burst shooting (40 or 99 shots), photo size (1, 5 or 8 MP), viewfinder (full screen or 4:3) and ISO value (from 10 to 1600 units). For video, you can enable image stabilization, audio recording, audio recording mode, slow motion (1 to 10 second intervals), effects, and video quality (resolution).

Smartphone ALCATEL ONE TOUCH SCRIBE HD proved that the devices under this brand retained the former attractiveness of French phones. The user can choose from a variety of bright body colors, or opt for classic options. In our case, a smartphone in a black case looks less attractive than a yellow one, but it has more practical body materials. The only wish is to move the power / lock key to one of the sidewalls of the case. Considering the dimensions of the 5-inch device, it is very difficult to reach it on the upper end. Or do it the way it is implemented in TCL Idol X - allow you to wake your smartphone from sleep mode with the volume keys.

As for the functional features, there is nothing to complain about. At least they all work no worse than on other similar devices. We are talking about smartphones based on MTK processors. A distinctive feature of which is a good balance between computing power and power consumption, as well as support for two SIM-cards.

Summing up, we note the good autonomy of ALCATEL ONE TOUCH SCRIBE HD, the package bundle, photo quality, assembly, body materials, bright display and its good behavior in bright sunlight (in this sample, the minimum brightness was 60 cd/m², against 70 cd/m² for of the first sample), a smooth interface of the Android 4.2 operating system and a set of applications for working with a stylus.
